My Essentials
Carry-on: Here's where I pack anything I can't live without: medications, make-up, toiletries (sample sizes save space), toothbrush and paste, at least two changes of clothing, change of shoes, shower gel, Band-Aids, anti-septic ointment. Anything that might leak goes in a plastic bag before it goes in the suitcase!
Handbag: Pocket tissues (restroom backup!), lipstick, comb, mirror, sunglasses, spare reading glasses, traveler's checks.
Valuables: I carry cash, credit cards, passport, etc. in a pouch that I can wear under my shirt. A variety of such pouches often can be found in department stores, and even in some office supply stores.
His Essentials
Additional Luggage
I try to keep the number of bags to a minimum. I make sure I remove old airline tags before I leave. (I don't want to confuse those baggage handlers!) We like to use a colorful luggage strap around our checked pieces. This not only keeps the luggage from popping open, but it helps to identify it at the baggage claim.
Shoes: I stuff socks in them to save space, and then wrap them with gift wrap tissue. Comfortable walking shoes are a must.
Color Coordinate: I coordinate my wardrobe around one or two basic colors that will mix and match. This means I need fewer items and fewer shoes, too! I love cotton knits because they resist wrinkles and I can gently roll them to take up less space.
One Good Jacket: A good jacket or blazer that coordinates with the basic color scheme can complete several outfits from denims to dresses.
Extra Bag: I pack a fold-up zippered tote for carrying home those special treasures.
